Here's exactly what happens

No test. No pressure. Just a conversation and some genuinely useful feedback.

Step 1 · 2–3 mins

You tell me your goal

I'll ask two simple questions: what do you want to achieve with your English, and what feels most difficult right now? That's it. Your answers shape everything that follows.

Step 2 · 15–20 mins

We just talk

We have a natural conversation about your life, work, travel, whatever you're comfortable with. While you speak, I listen carefully and take notes on the patterns I notice.

Step 3 · The important part

You get honest, structured feedback

Most teachers correct everything. I don't. I'll identify the 2–3 specific things that are actually holding you back and explain them clearly, using real examples from our conversation. Most learners say this is the first time they've understood why they struggle.

Step 4 · No pressure

We decide on next steps together

If I think a few more sessions would make a real difference, I'll explain exactly what we'd work on and why. You'll leave with a clear picture of where you are and what to focus on.

About Me

I grew up in Cornwall, in the South West of the UK, and I'm now living in Thailand — which tells you pretty much everything about my love of travel and exploring.

I've been teaching for 10 years and launched the Level Up English Podcast back in 2019. Since then I've posted an episode every single week without fail, coaching learners from all around the world to help them reach their English-language goals.

When I'm not on the road or behind the microphone, you'll find me deep in a language app — studying Japanese, Chinese, Thai, and a little Cornish for good measure.

What is this page for?

This is the place to book private 1-to-1 classes with Michael! You can register for free above to get access to the calendar.

You will be able to choose a date on the calendar and have an online English class.

What level do I need to be?

Any level is welcome – from complete beginner to advanced. Our teachers will adapt the lesson to suit your current ability and goals.

What will we do in the lesson?

That depends on you! Lessons are tailored to your needs: conversation practice, building confidence, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, or anything else you’d like to focus on.

How do I join the video call?

We use Zoom for lessons.

After booking, you will receive a Zoom link by email.

Just before the class time, simply click the link.

Zoom will open automatically in your browser or ask you to download the app.

I recommend downloading the app for a better experience.

What if I have internet problems?

These things happen!

First of all, make sure you test your connection before booking a lesson. If your connection isn’t good, it’s important to fix the issue before having online meetings.

If either the student or teacher has connections problems in the class, we can deal with this on a case-by-case basis. If it stops us from having the lesson, we can arrange to reschedule.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

No problem!

Just give us at least 24 hours notice and you can reschedule or get a full refund.

Rescheduling: You may reschedule your session with at least 24 hours’ notice at no extra cost.
Cancellation (24+ hours): Cancel with 24 hours or more notice for a full refund.
Late Cancellation (1-12 hours): Cancellations with less than 12 hours’ notice receive a 50% refund.
Very Late Cancellation (<1 hour): Cancellations with less than 1 hour’s notice or no-shows are non-refundable.

Do I need to prepare anything?

Nope! Just show up ready to learn. If you have specific questions or topics you’d like to cover, feel free to bring them, but it’s not required.

Will I get notes after the lesson?

Yes! I will do my best to provide notes after each lesson so you can review what you learnt.
